Alex Chilton renders 'Surfer Girl'

Here is an Alex Chilton take on everyman's dream song about his dream girlfriend.

The incomparable Brian Wilson composition, Surfer Girl.

This is a paradigm-shattering piece of music.  This one piece of pop perfection changed the psyche of the male species ... FOREVER.

Chilton adds perhaps a little rawness to it in this interesting rendition.

Alex Chilton was a big cog for the Box Tops and a lot more.

According to Wikipedia.

William Alexander "Alex" Chilton (December 28, 1950 – March 17, 2010) was an American songwriter, guitarist, singer and producer, best known as the lead singer of the Box Tops and Big Star.[2] Chilton's early commercial success in the 1960s as a teen vocalist for the Box Tops was not repeated in later years with Big Star and in his indie music solo career on small labels, but he drew a loyal following in the indie and alternative music fields, and is often cited as an influence by many mainstream rock artists and bands.

Early life and career

Chilton grew up in a musical family; his father, Sidney Chilton, was a jazz musician. A local band recruited the teenager in 1966 as their lead singer after learning of the popularity of his vocal performance at a talent show at Memphis' Central High School; this band was The Devilles, later renamed Box Tops. The new group recorded with Chips Moman and producer/songwriter Dan Penn at American Sound Studio and Muscle Shoals' FAME Studios.
